I didn’t start my running journey until I was 37. I’d had my children and was very uncomfortable in my own skin. My very first run, was on a bank holiday, my gym was closed, and I needed some 'me time' and to de-stress. I put my headphones in and away I went. From that moment on I've never looked back. I fell in love with running, the way it made me feel, the way it eventually made me look and the life-long friends I've made along the way. I can honestly say it has changed my life and my mental health for the better. I quickly progressed from half marathons to marathons, then started looking for my next challenge. A friend of mine mentioned Trail Outlaws. I admit, I was very apprehensive at first. Would I like the mud? Would I get lost? What was it all about? I turned up at my first race, not quite knowing what to expect and was immediately hooked. My first trail run was at Penshaw Half Marathon. I immediately felt the camaraderie during registration and the support and family feeling throughout the race. My staple run every year has to be Dark Skies. My third consecutive year this year running the triple and very honoured to be running it an an ambassador for Trail Outlaws.

My running is a wonderful passion I adore , it’s an old friend that has been with me throughout my life and as with all good friends , there for me when times are life difficult as well as when everything is awesome . Took it up again as a way of redressing an unhealthy lifestyle when I would have struggled to run to catch a bus . I remember training at night in the dark because I felt embarrassing , so slow and not a “proper runner” whatever I thought that was. I lost my mum to cancer during that time and went on to run hundred mile races as well as a crazy 31 month of December marathons raising much needed funds for St Benedict’s hospice in Sunderland, as well as other mad running stuff . I accidentally formed a running club called RED that has well over 1000 active members ( a canny bunch I am proud of) . Very proud to have been closely associated with the Trail Outlaws since inception helping to develop the Dark Skies Run @ Kielder, as well as other events now Legendary.
